Monkey Island 2 Walkthrough: The Largo Embargo
The first objective is to drive Largo off Scabb Island and hire Captain Dread. Gather four personal ingredients for a voodoo doll, then solve the travel-money problem. This is a Part I walkthrough, not the four-map-piece chapter.

Walkthrough steps
- After Largo takes your money, take the shovel from the bridge sign. In Wally’s room collect paper, and take his monocle when he sets it down.
- Visit the Bloody Lip. Once Largo spits on the wall and leaves, collect the spit with the paper. Enter the kitchen through its outside window and take the knife.
- Get the bucket from the laundry area and fill it with swamp mud. Visit the Voodoo Lady to learn the four doll ingredients and take the string nearby.
- Use the knife to free the innkeeper’s alligator. While the innkeeper is distracted, take cheese snacks and Largo’s toupee from his room.
- Use the shovel on the marked grave of Largo’s ancestor at the cemetery to obtain a bone.
- Close Largo’s bedroom door and balance the mud bucket on it. After Largo goes to the laundry, return and take the claim ticket from the back of the door. Exchange it for his clothing.
- Give the Voodoo Lady the spit, toupee, ancestor’s bone and clothing. Back at Largo’s room, use the pins on the doll.
- If you need fare money, build the rat trap with the box, stick, string and cheese. Put the captured rat in the kitchen stew and ask the bartender about the food; take the resulting cook job.
- Give the monocle to Captain Dread and pay for the voyage once Largo is gone.
Version notes and help
Why the doll is not available yet
The doll requires items representing Largo’s body, head, ancestry and clothing. Opening dialogue does not replace physically delivering them. Check your inventory after each handoff before returning to the inn.
Easy and full-puzzle mode
The full-puzzle route has job and inventory dependencies that the simplified mode may skip. Do not force a step into a version where its item or obstacle is absent. The next chapter has a separate set of island and map puzzles.
Common questions
Where is the laundry ticket?
In Largo’s room, on the back of the closed door after the mud incident.
Why does Captain Dread still refuse to leave?
Check both the Largo objective and Dread’s monocle and payment requirements.
