How to play Minesweeper
Open every square that does not contain a mine. Each revealed number tells you how many mines touch that square, including diagonally. Empty regions open together. Flags help you track suspected mines, but they do not count as revealed safe cells. Your first square and its neighbors are safe. Later positions can require a guess; this version does not promise deduction-only boards.
Choose your difficulty
| Level | What changes |
|---|---|
| Easy | 9 × 9 board with 10 mines. |
| Medium | 12 × 12 board with 24 mines. |
| Hard | 16 × 16 board with 50 mines. |
Controls
Click or tap a square to open it. Right-click to place or remove a flag. On a touchscreen, turn Flag mode on before tapping suspected mines. Opening a mine ends the round.
A tip for your first round
When a number already has that many flagged neighbors, its other covered neighbors may be safe. Check your flags carefully before acting.

Minesweeper questions
Is the first click safe?
Yes. Mines are placed after the first opening, away from that square and its immediate neighbors.
How do I flag a square on mobile?
Turn on Flag mode, then tap a covered square. Turn Flag mode off to open squares again.
Can every board be solved without guessing?
No. A safe first opening is guaranteed; a completely guess-free game is not.
