Half-Life Cheat Codes: Original PC / GoldSrc
Half-Life’s original PC game uses the developer console. Enable sv_cheats 1, reload a save if needed, then use commands such as god or impulse 101. These instructions cover GoldSrc Half-Life, not Half-Life: Source or Black Mesa.

Setup and activation
- Create a separate saved game.
- Launch Half-Life with -console if the console is unavailable.
- Open the console with the backtick/tilde key and enter sv_cheats 1.
- Reload the saved game so the setting takes effect in builds that require it.
- Enter the desired command and press Enter.

Version notes and help
A reload matters
A correct command can appear ineffective immediately after changing sv_cheats in the original game. Reloading or crossing a map boundary can apply the setting. Check this before trying commands copied from a different Half-Life edition.
Preserve scripted encounters
Half-Life frequently waits for a scientist, guard, elevator or trigger. Noclip may get you past a barrier without progressing the event. Return to your saved position if the next sequence does not begin rather than continuing farther outside the route.

Is a leading slash necessary?
Enter the command itself in the console, such as god or impulse 101. Avoid mixing commands with chat input.
Will this work in Black Mesa?
That is a separate Source-engine game. This reference is for Valve’s original GoldSrc release.
