Curse of Monkey Island Walkthrough: Escape LeChuck’s Ship
Escape the opening ship by making a gaff, recovering the cutlass and cutting the cannon restraint. The diamond ring then opens a way out of the treasure hold. This page covers Part I only.

Walkthrough steps
- Talk to the pirate called Bloodnose until Guybrush recognizes Wally. Continue the conversation until Wally breaks down and drops his hook.
- Take the plastic hook and the ramrod from the wall. Combine them in the inventory to create a long gaff.
- Operate the cannon to deal with the skeleton boats outside. Look through the opening and use the gaff to retrieve the skeleton arm with its cutlass.
- Talk to Murray if you want the scene’s optional dialogue. Knock him off his floating perch when you need to clear it.
- Use the cutlass on the cannon’s restraint rope, then fire the cannon again. This changes the ship’s condition and moves Guybrush into the treasure area.
- Take the bag of nickels to expose the diamond ring. Pick up the ring and use it on the porthole to cut an escape opening.
Version notes and help
Inventory combinations matter
Selecting the ramrod alone is not the same action as combining it with the hook. Build the gaff in the inventory before targeting the floating arm. If the cutlass is missing, revisit the outside view instead of repeatedly firing the restrained cannon.
Controls and chapter boundary
Use the interaction coin to distinguish examining, talking and using an object. The next part begins the curse-and-crew quest on Plunder Island; its ship, map and recruitment problems are outside this short walkthrough.
Save after the escape
A new save at the chapter transition is a useful return point before experimenting with later puzzles. It also separates this solved opening from the longer normal-mode or Mega-Monkey dependencies that follow.
