Age of Empires cheat codes and how to use them

Version notes and help
Terrain and enemy visibility
REVEAL MAP and NO FOG solve different problems. Seeing terrain is not the same as having current information about enemy activity. Try map reveal first when you only want to find the remaining land or resources.
Where a spawned unit appears
Cheat units appear at a Town Center, so a unit command can seem to fail if you have lost that building or are looking elsewhere. The trial version does not support this full cheat system.
Preserve the original challenge
A resource top-up is easier to limit than global production changes. Save before adding special units, then return to the untouched position if you want to practice the opening economy. This guide deliberately omits later-expansion units so that a base-game player is not asked to type unavailable commands.
Common questions
Do I need capitals?
The first game’s text commands are not case-sensitive.
Are these the Age of Empires II codes?
No. AoE II uses phrases such as lumberjack and robin hood instead.
